Construction Manager

About The Position

The Construction Manager for Ryan Hughes Design (RHD) is responsible for the successful execution of assigned construction projects from mobilization to completion. The primary focus of this role is to provide coordination of all on-site activities. Construction Managers will partner with Project Executives for profitable and timely execution of all assignments. Will serve as the Master Builder for all assigned projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver best in class project experiences through professional and consistent communication partnering with internal resources.
  • Manage all project activities from design-build contract execution through closeout: including design, permitting, and construction.
  • Oversees, manages and documents all day-to-day job site activities including RHDB and OSHA safety compliance requirements.
  • Directs field personnel according to the project plan and RHD’s supervisory principles.
  • Communicates issues, events, performance and progress daily to the Project Executive.
  • Coordinate utilization of RHD’s self-perform crews with Director of Construction on a daily basis.
  • Participate in Project Turnover Meetings, and identify pre-mobilization activities.
  • Perform buyout of specific projects as assigned.
  • Create Project Schedule and make modifications as necessary within one week of the Project Turnover Meeting, then update schedules for all assigned projects on a weekly basis to ensure completion dates are maintained.
  • Communicates any substantial modification and/or deviation from the project schedule that would impact the final completion of the project to the Project Executive.
  • Complete Two-Week Look Ahead Schedules and review with Project Executive on a weekly basis, then review with field personnel to ensure tasks will be completed as planned.
  • Conducts inspection of all construction aspects to ensure quality standards are met and any existing improvements are protected.
  • Ensures that all products and materials incorporated into the project are per approved submittals and contract documents.
  • Represents RHDB in a professional manner with owners, architects, consultants, government authorities, vendors and subcontractors.
  • Schedules Design Review Field Visits with Project Designer at established milestones during the project.
  • Ensures that all required inspections and material testing are approved, documented and communicated to the project team.
  • Works with Project Executive to identify and resolve personnel issues and construction process revisions.
  • Creates and manages all punch list items to their successful completion.
  • Manages the timing, quality and condition of all material deliveries.
  • Utilize Procore to its fullest extent to complete assigned tasks.

Qualifications

A) Language/Communication Skills

  • Must possess excellent communication skills including oral, written and listening. These skills may be used when communicating with clients, coordinating projects, resolving conflict, attending meetings, training, developing relationships with vendors and subcontractors, or presenting information.
 

B) Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Ability to read, understand and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project schedule.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic systems for pools and water features, including circulation, filtration, and basic pump and piping layouts.
  • Able to multi-task and handle competing priorities between RHDB’s business needs and organizational issues while maintaining excellent customer relations.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage the many details necessary for successful construction.
  • Must have judgment to know when to appropriately escalate issues up the chain of command.
  • Excellent management skills to effectively manage subcontractor performance to high quality.
  • Demonstrate continuous performance improvement in targeted areas of responsibility in alignment with the overall company strategy.
  • Must be able to read construction documents.
 

C) Experience Required

  • At least five (5) years of project supervision in the construction industry, preferably within high-end residential and/or commercial projects.
 

D) Working Environment

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize numerous tasks.
  • Daily computer usage is required for this position.
  • Daily travel to job sites or other relevant events.

Physical Requirements

  • Position requires routine lifting, bending, pushing, and pulling while handling basic office supplies and material deliveries up to 50 lbs. The employee is required to reach with hand and arms and may sit for long periods of time. Tolerance to prolonged exposure to a computer monitor and keyboard utilization is required. May require use of own vehicle to attend off-site meetings, trainings and events.
