Service Technician

About The Position

The Service & Warranty Technician is responsible for protecting the Ryan Hughes Design client experience after construction by performing equipment installations, warranty repairs, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and quality assurance inspections. This role serves as the company’s field expert for completed projects, ensuring all pool, spa, landscape, lighting, and water feature systems operate as designed while maintaining the highest standards of craftsmanship and customer service.

The Service & Warranty Technician represents Ryan Hughes Design in clients’ homes and is
expected to diagnose issues, communicate solutions professionally, and uphold the luxury service experience that defines our brand.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform equipment installations including pumps, filters, heaters, automation systems, lighting, and associated pool equipment.
  • Install and commission automation systems, low-voltage lighting, and specialty water feature equipment.
  • Respond to warranty service requests and diagnose mechanical, electrical, plumbing, hydraulic, and automation issues.
  • Troubleshoot pool, spa, fountain, landscape lighting, and irrigation-related systems.
  • Verify equipment startup, programming, calibration, and proper operation.
  • Complete warranty repairs efficiently while maintaining a clean and professional job site.
  • Coordinate with Project Executives, Construction Managers, and subcontractors regarding warranty items and outstanding punch list work.
  • Document all service visits, warranty work, photographs, and recommendations in Procore.
  • Maintain accurate service records, equipment inventories, and material usage.
  • Educate homeowners on operation of pool equipment, automation systems, lighting controls, and routine maintenance.
  • Coordinate ordering of replacement parts and warranty materials with vendors and manufacturers.
  • Maintain company vehicles, tools, equipment, and inventory in clean working condition.
  • Identify recurring product or installation issues and communicate recommendations for process improvements.
  • Support production teams with equipment startups, commissioning, punch-list completion, and project closeout as workload requires.
  • Assist Construction Managers with technical field support when requested.
  • Participate in emergency service calls when necessary.

Qualifications

A) Language/Communication Skills

  • Must possess excellent communication skills including oral, written and listening. These skills may be used when communicating with clients, coordinating projects, resolving conflict, attending meetings, training, developing relationships with vendors and subcontractors, or presenting information.

B) Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Reasoning skills must be well developed to objectively assist with issues and to present results accurately, effectively and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to be detailed orientated.
  • Demonstrate continuous performance improvement in targeted areas of responsibility in alignment with the overall company strategy.
  • Must be able to read construction documents.
 

C) Education Required

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Trade School, Technical Certification, or equivalent field experience preferred.
  • Manufacturer certifications (Jandy, Pentair, Hayward, PAL Lighting, etc.) are a plus.
 

D) Experience Required

  • Minimum 3 years of experience servicing or installing swimming pool equipment, electrical systems, or related mechanical trades.
 

E) Working Environment

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize numerous tasks.
  • Continual computer usage is required for this position.
  • May be required to travel to job sites or other relevant events

Physical Requirements

  • Position requires routine lifting, bending, pushing, pulling while handling basic office supplies and material deliveries up to 50 lbs. The employee is required to reach with hand and arms and may sit for long periods of time. Tolerance to prolonged exposure to a computer monitor and keyboard utilization is required. May require use of own vehicle to attend off-site meetings and trainings or events.
