Bronze Award 2023: Pools with a Vanishing Edge.
An ultra-lush and custom planted tropical outdoor living space, Avant-Garde reveals a love of nature and contemporary design. From the entry fountain to the koi pond, from mixed media surfaces to the custom pool with rock grotto spa, this multi-million-dollar project by Ryan Hughes Design-Build extends throughout the client’s estate. The shimmering glass tile infinity-edge pool with custom tile imagery was crafted to mirror an adjacent water-wall design. Rocks and boulders from the client’s personal collection gathered in countries around the globe are used to create the custom grotto as well as add drama to areas throughout the outdoor space.
A dramatic plunge section within the pool was designed to enable the client’s entry from the second-story balcony. An adjacent koi pond is visible from a lounging area due to a radius acrylic in-pool window. Unique surfaces within the project include an ipe and kumaroo deck crafted to resemble a leaf as well as multiple levels of Travertine tile, rock slabs and faux turf patios. Additional designer elements include dual rain walls, natural fire pots, a private rock shower, concrete stepping stones and curated shade and seating pieces.
