Odyssey

PHTA Silver Winner
Spanning 14,500 square feet of outdoor living, Odyssey -- a modern outdoor oasis -- is situated on a waterfront property in Tampa, Florida. The open-air concept space, designed and constructed by Ryan Hughes Design, is an immersive outdoor living area like no other. The view and experience from poolside in the rear of the home projects that of being in the Hughes-designed front courtyard at the same time—especially so given the wall of glass across the front of the home, making for an uninhibited flow throughout.

The path from the multi-fountained pool at the entrance to the immense rear pool with sunken spa and fire lounge winds through the outdoor kitchen, dining and lounging area. Bordering the area are numerous luxury entertainment and relaxation oases—all situated in and open to the out of doors. The contemporary styled pool spans approximately a 6,400-square-foot space including an island and encompasses in its design over 5,700-square-feet of glass tile. With a volume of over 100,000 gallons of water, the pool is the centerpiece of Odyssey’s living area designed for hosting events and charity functions. At 192 feet in length, the vanishing edge pool is noted as the longest residential pool in the surrounding area. The tile-clad spa, the size of a typical interior room, measures over 14’ x 14’ and boasts an amazing 33 jets. A sunken fire pit equal in size to the spa includes a marble clad custom fire pit and surrounding cushioned seating for a large group.

The pool design also features a two-story curling slide, multiple sun shelves with loungers, fire pots, island lounge space and a water trough surround. The artwork of internationally renowned artist, Alex Turco is inlaid as a part of a designer waterfall and a Vistatolia living wall overlooks the pool as well as within the outdoor kitchen design. A fully-equipped outdoor kitchen with Fire Magic appliances, and luxury casual furnishings was curated by the designers. A major dining area points from the front door to open spaces beyond the pool to the lakeside lawn. Deep seating, from Brown Jordan and Dedon is complemented by Mama Green tables, Ledge Lounger chaises, Brown Jordan Daybeds and Tuuci shade. Accents are provided by the art and accessories as well as decorative pillows from Elaine Smith. Pal outdoor lighting allows for the area to shine into the evening with smart capabilities to highlight living areas to landscaping. In the design, palm trees and other landscape elements appear to float within the entrance pool overlooking the rows of fountains and custom walkways.

The total open-air concept of living within Odyssey accents the homeowner’s lifestyle with areas to each side of the flow-through outdoor living design.
